Guild Wars

I like Guild Wars.

I'm impressed with the vision by which ArenaNet developers have created Guild Wars. It is a clear vision.

Unlike many other developers, who try to achieve everything, but don't know how, I believe ArenaNet developers have prioritized their work well.

On one end, there is the sound basis: the technology which permits a shardless world and streaming download.

On the other end, there is the thing which can keep a game afloat for a long time: PvP gameplay.

The game itself streches in the middle; a peculiar balance between the possiblities enabled by technology and the envisioned goals of the gameplay dynamic.

(So far) Guild Wars is primarily a game, secondarily a game world.

When you create a new character in Guild Wars, you are presented with two basic options: will your character be a roleplay (RP) character or a PvP (Player versus Player) character?

A roleplay character advances through the missions of Guild Wars, reaches 'adulthood' by completing the trials of ascension, and explores the Guild Wars world.

A PvP character's sole purpose is combat against other players in one of the arenas. By besting other players, new skills and items may be unlocked on the account, which increase the diversity of options a PvP only character has at disposal.

Combat in Guild Wars is carried out at multiple leves:

1. game (where the actual battle is carried out)
2. meta-game (where you choose which 8 skills you will use in battle)
3. group meta-game (where you assemble a group and discuss group strategy)

This ensures that there is plenty of room for both tactics and strategy.

And, Guild Wars has no monthly fee! How cool is that?

If you haven't played Guild Wars yet, give it a try!
