My Sassy Girl

My Sassy Girl is a beautiful South Korean movie.

...although when the also beautiful heroine repeatedly throws up in the first several minutes of the film, you are left wondering just what direction this movie will take.

My Sassy Girl is a romantic comedy, about two hours long.

The main charm of the movie is the lovely aggressiveness (or 'sassiness') of the heroine. The first part is more of a comedy, where we observe how a relationship develops between the somewhat withdrawn and shy boy, Gyeon-woo, and the overly imposing and chaotic girl (who remains unnamed throughout the movie). Plenty of comical situations arise.

The second part delves deeper into romance, and we find out more about their pain, sorrow, and motivation. Slowly, laughter and pain are slowly transformed into genuine feelings of Love.

My Sassy Girl takes charming bits and pieces like extremely bad attempts at writings, homing squash balls, emotional breakdowns, desire to time-travel, and turns these parts into a meaningful masterpiece. (Granting Pachelbel's Canon in D-dur a prominent place in the movie is a good choice!)

Jun Ji-Hyun (who plays the heroine) acts with exceptional skill; the facial expressions, the emotional reflections, the attitude - all fittingly and masterfully executed.

My favorite part is the Girl explains to Gyeon-woo why the world revolves around her - be sure not to miss it!

Go watch My Sassy Girl!
