I like Orange Days.
Orange Days is one of the few Japanese non-anime series I have seen so far. It's not too long a series: it has 11 episodes.
Orange Days is about a group of friends who are about to graduate from university (these are the so called orange days) and the relationships they develop. One of the main characters is a deaf girl; a musician who plays the violin and the piano. The other main character is an outgoing and friendly young man, and their group of friends forms around them.
What has intrigued me with Orange Days is that their relationships and conversations are semi-intimate; thoughtfully awkward and gentle. They seem warm and genuine.
Compared to Orange Days, relationships and conversations in western movies seem stiff and sexually disbalanced - no intimacy whatsoever.
To be honest, I expected to see a Japanese variant of Spanish series, the ones in which they scream all the time about their jealousy and undying love. (The ones which impel me to get a shotgun and yell "¡Callate mujeres!" myself.)
Thankfully, I was pleasantly surprised.
Even the gently flowing conflict that is present is not about intrinsic villains or externalized evil, but strife and misunderstanding.
Orange Days is very refreshing to watch.
Go watch Orange Days!
